The problem is that we speak the same language

Why do we think that choosing the same language of communication makes it easier? Here I am in a foreign country, choosing to speak the only language I actually know quite well outside of my own – English. Others choose to speak English with me, and yet who said this would be the best language we can understand each other? Speaking the same language I keep feeling that we give different meaning to the words.

The most bizarre thing happened to me, when someone from Russian office of our company started writing to me in English, translating it the way I couldn’t catch the meaning of her sentences! Why using the language that makes it so difficult for 2 people to understand each other, while there’s a native language they both speak from the day 0!! And even then there’s no guarantee of being understood..

Yes, cultural background comes together with the language. “Late” in Germany is not the same “Late” as in Brazil. Our background gives words meanings. Yet why don’t we translate similar sounding words into smth else, if we know they mean different things? Why do we choose to communicate on the language that might make things even more complicated? Why there’s no correlation rate between languages to see what would be the best language to bring clarity between two people and that would be the language that we’d learn. What would be the way to communicate if words only complicate and confuse. Look? Signs? Gestures?
